The YES Trap

Have you noticed a shift in our culture?

More people are busy.  Many professionals, business owners and people in general are running around acting and feeling like their heads are cut off!  I’ve spoken with them.  They feel like they’re being pulled in all sorts of directions at the same time.

Saying ‘yes’ to everyone’s requests for help is kind, but not when it becomes your default mode, watch out!  Habitually responding with a ‘yes’ to most requests causes a disconnect from the life you want.

Do you WANT to spend all of your precious time bussing your children to 10 different practices?  How about community volunteering?  Wouldn’t you LOVE to devote 5 out of 7 evening’s a week to charity programs and business meetings?  Who are you kidding?  I definately am!

My clients often tell me that they feel they need to be the one to do everything themselves, and perfectly!

No pressure felt there!

Ok people.  Let’s sit down and re-evaluate what you really want your life to look like.  If you keep saying yes to everything and everyone, you will find yourself in a trap of your own making.  Take back control of your time and you will gain access to better health, time for fun/creativity and deeper relationships.

It’s your responsibility to get crystal clear on what you want to be spending your time on.

What and who is most important to you?  What are your priorities right now?  What do you not want to be spending your time on?  How do you want to feel?  Will saying yes to another friend or to working late bring your closer to the life you want?

In my business, I know for sure that saying yes to yourself and what you want can be uncomfortable.

First, you need to believe you’re a priority, you matter and you’re worth the time.

Second, you need to get really good at letting guilt slide off your shoulders instead of letting it get stuck in your eyes and clouding your ability to make decisions.

Saying yes to yourself and no to what is not your ultimate priority will lead you towards personal success and confidence.  This is the path to more peace of mind and less stress.  My clients tell me all the time what a difference it has made in their lives!

Come and join me on Facebook and let me know if you’re already saying no to what’s not a priority to you.  I’d love to hear how it’s going for you!  Connect with me here:  www.facebook.com/AmyEnglemarkCoaching

Whatever you do, remember this – The important people in your life won’t leave you if you say no to them.  Personal growth happens when you stop saying ‘yes’ all the time!

Testimonials

As a physician and mother, itʼs always been a challenge to balance work, home and self-care, but now I have more tools and ideas to make this easier.  Amy helped me set clear goals to improve my quality of life and it was amazing to see the improvement over the course of the eight sessions.

Monique Robertson
Amy helped me identify and acknowledge my insecurities and fears.  Now I know I don’t have to live in fear. I don’t have to be afraid to show the world who I am.
Rocio Olvera
One key principle Amy encouraged me to implement was to guard my rest (unplugging from the world and its demands). As I took care of myself better my focus and energy increased as well as my resiliency to deal with my life as a whole.  I saw how this internal peace improved my decision making, conflict resolution and even building up my business.
Jenn Co.
My time management has radically improved and I am getting a better handle on my finances.  Most importantly, my personal dreams and spiritual goals are flourishing.  My ability to relate well to my coworkers and handle my own stress has also benefited immensely.
